Climate of Goa

Having a coast line of about 102 km, Goa has a tropical kind of climate. The mild and pleasant weather of Goa is due to its coastal territory and also being near to the Arabian Sea. There is very low fluctuation in Goa’s weather throughout the year. We can say Goa has consistent climate only in April and May when the temperature rises up to 35°C, May being the hottest month. The summers in Goa are teamed with high humidity. Being near to the sea, the gentle sea breezes give a soothing effect during the hot summers.

June is the month which brings monsoons in Goa. It is bit early as compared to the other Indian states. The monsoons calm down the hot and humid climate of Goa and remain till the month of September. The average rainfall of Goa is approximately 325 centimeters. It is more in the coastal region of the Western Ghats. The rainfall is very heavy and the strong winds blow during the rainy season in Goa. The monsoons bring with them tropical thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Hence very few people visit Goa during these months. After September when the monsoon is over the weather becomes very pleasant and this is the best time when the tourists visit Goa enjoying the cloudless sky, balmy weather and the sightseeing.

The climate in Goa is temperate with moderate temperature. The summers are very hot mainly during the months of April and May. People usually do not visit Goa during these months. The afternoons during the summers are very long and hot with temperature ranging between 27 C to 34 C. The sun shines for nine to ten hours during the summers. The winters last only for two months, December and January. The temperature ranges from 18 C to 30 C. The maximum number of tourists visits Goa in December at Christmas and New Year time. People enjoy the cold weather during this festive time. The whole place is packed with the visitors. Rest of the year Goa exhibits very pleasant and tropical climate. A pleasant and tropical climate is present in Goa for the rest of the year. Rain is brought to Goa by the Southwest Monsoon between June and September. The whole place is mushy and lust green at this time. Maximum rainfall occurs in the month of July and the least rainfall occurs in the month of February. Between the months of June and September, the annual rainfall is around 2,800 - 3,500 mm The normal temperature range during rest of the year is 20°C to 34°C.

Best Time to Visit Goa

Goa, one of the most sought after holiday spots in India, is visited by millions of domestic and foreign tourists all through the year. There is something in it for people of all age groups. There is no particular best time to visit Goa, most of the people visit the place during winters or monsoon seasons. People can choose to visit this beautiful place based on their comfort levels. On a broad level, there are three main seasons of the year when tourists visit Goa.

The months between November and February are the best time to visit Goa. The climate is absolutely pleasant and chilly in Goa during this time and this is when tourists visit here in large numbers. Foreign tourists too come here for partying at the international class hotels and for enjoying sun-baths at the silvery beaches that are found in plenty in Goa. Goa is thronged by many tourists who herald Christmas and New Year at Goa. It is indeed an unforgettable experience for tourists who ring in the New Year at the beaches of Goa. However, tourists must ensure that they plan their travel well in advance as most of the accommodation facilities are fully reserved during this season.

The season between March and May is very hot and there are not many tourists in Goa during this time. Foreign tourists do come here for a tan, however, there are not as many tourists here as they are found during the winter season. One of the main advantages of visiting Goa during this time is that even the most premium hotels are available at affordable rates and reservation is available even during the last minute. The beaches of Goa are overcrowded during the evenings as people come here to enjoy the sunset after a hot day.

The season between June and October is marked by heavy rains in Goa which makes the place all the more green and the beaches are cool and relaxing during this time. The monsoon season is also marked by the local festival of Sao-Joao, where men fetch bottles of local alcohol (feni) from the depth of wells.  Premium hotels are available at nominal rates during this time. Tourists can indeed make a steal during this time as even the best hotels are available at a nice bargain during this time. Goa is a wonderful place that looks absolutely beautiful irrespective of the month of the year it is visited in, which is why it is considered to be one of the major tourist spots in the country.
